Behind The News – This clip was called: Bloopers (Clip Released: 01/12/2015)

3 Facts:

  • To be a BTN reporter you have to really know what you’re talking about
  • It’s a new experience because you may have to film in all different kinds of places e.g. a part of one BTN was filmed in the toilet
  • You really have fun and enjoy yourself being a BTN reporter

2 Understandings:

  • It’s fun because watching BTN clip proved to me that the reporters had fun
  • you have to do a lot of research to make sure that ALL of your facts are correct

1 Question:

  • Do the BTN reporters tend to learn a lot about the happenings in the world?

BTN – Einstein

Behind The News – This clip was called: Einstein (Clip Released: 24/11/2015)

3 Facts:

  • Einstein attempted to go to university at 15 years old
  • His theory of relativity has helped us understand more about how gravity works
  • Because Einstein couldn’t find work as a teacher, he worked in a patent office looking at other people’s inventions

2 Understandings:

  • Einstein moved to Switzerland because he didn’t get into university so he wanted to try elsewhere
  • His theory has helped scientists figure out the existence of black holes

1 Question:

  • Did working at the patent office inspire Einstein to be a scientist?

BTN – Astronaut Ad

  • To register to an astronaut for NASA you have to be between the height of 1.5m and 1.9m tall
  • Only American citizens are allowed to put up their hand to become an astronaut
  • NASA is looking for the next generation of astronauts for future space missions to Mars

2 Understandings: 

  • You must have a university degree so that you have some knowledge and understanding of space or working with machines
  • You need to do 2 more years of training to become an astronaut so that you know everything that you need to do and how to act

1 Question:

  • Why is NASA only accepting citizens of America?

BTN – Public Money

  • Bronwyn Bishop hired an expensive helicopter to take her from Melbourne to Geelong
  • She is the speaker in the House of Representatives in Parliament house
  • A lot of people are upset that she used so much money to only hire a helicopter

2 Understandings:

  • Politicians don’t have to pay for things like going overseas and travelling over Australia for work because it is a part of their job
  • The public do not agree that Bronwyn Bishop used $5227 wisely

1 Question:

  • Is it possible for Bronwyn Bishop to go for the job again (if she wants to) and maybe not be as harassed as she was before?

BTN – Kids’ Ads

Behind The News – This clip was called: Kids’ Ads (Clip Released: 08/09/2009)

3 Facts:

  • Some advertisements are aimed at children so that they want to buy the junk food that is being advertised
  • If you are obese as a child and also as an adult, it is likely that you may get diabetes or cancer
  • The Australians Communication and Media Authority (ACMA) is in charge of looking out for inappropriate things on television for children

2 Understandings:

  • The ads that are on TV can hook anyone because sometimes the looks of something, and the way they describe it, can be deceiving.
  • The junk food ads have not been proven to be linked to obesity, because sometimes it’s just some people’s decision.

  • Are the people in who work for ACMA volunteer workers?
